
Fish and seafood are among the top 3 main types of agri-food imported to Ukraine. In 2020, the share of products of this group in the structure of such supplies to Ukraine was almost 10%, and about a third of fish and seafood Ukraine imported from Norway last year. This was announced by Deputy Director of the NSC “Institute of Agrarian Economics”, Academician of NAAS Mykola Pugachev, UNN reports with reference to the press service of the Institute.
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in 2020 the volume of imports of products of the group “Fish, crustaceans and mollusks” amounted to 680 million dollars. USA, 5.6% higher than the cost of purchases of this type of agri-food in 2019, the expert said.
According to him, Ukraine buys mainly frozen, as well as fresh or chilled fish, fish fillets and various crustaceans.
Most fish and seafood are usually imported to Ukraine from Europe and North America.
Norway has held the leading position in terms of the cost of supplies of this type of products to our country for over 15 years in a row. In 2020, its value share remained the most significant in domestic imports of seafood, amounting to 31.4%, said Nikolai Pugachev.
Iceland (12.5%), the United States (10.3%), Canada (6.0%), Spain (4.3%), and the United Kingdom (3.6%) had a much smaller share in the value of fish and seafood supplies. ) and the Faroe Islands (3.2%).
